Buying Digital Community of Practice

About this event

Join us in January when we will come together, for the first time in 2022, as a buying digital community to network, learn, and share best practice. The three sessions each start at 10:30am and will last around an hour and a half.

Please feel free to register for one, two or all three sessions – whatever best suits your interests and diary .

Note: these events are specifically for public sector buyers. If you are a supplier, despite thanking you for your interest, we won’t, unfortunately, be able to allow you to participate this time.

Tuesday 25 January

Topic : Building teams using DevOps consultancy services

Description : There are a number of suppliers out there that source and train graduate level employees in areas such as business analysis, software and data engineering, and project management. The placement employer pays a low day rate for 18 months during training before then employing them without a fee.

In this session we will consider how these services can be used to recruit into the public sector; we will hear from a Home Office colleague with a first hand account of the challenges and rewards she encountered when building teams via this route. We will explore how to build dynamic teams while tapping into an emerging talent pool of graduates keen to expand their skills and experience. You will find out more about how to access providers – currently available via G-Cloud, and also hear about possible new framework developments for the future.

Speakers will include a practitioner from Home Office, and CCS framework managers

Wednesday 26 January

Topic : Social Value – Delivering through procurement

Description : Recognising that procurement teams across the public sector are at different stages in their journey towards incorporating Social Value into their procurement, this session will be an opportunity to hear from colleagues with a lot of experience and learnt lessons to share, whilst also seeking advice on any doubts or challenges you might be facing.

We will consider the implications of our commitment to social value for each stage of the process :

  • Drafting of Requirements / Pre Tender – how to work with suppliers (large and small) to encourage innovation and detailed, meaningful bids;
  • Evaluation – what to look for, what does a good Social Value proposal look like ?
  • Contract Management – reviewing Social Value performance, should penalties ever be considered ?

We will hear from practitioners and policy experts, with Q&A sessions with both, along with giving you the opportunity to consider your own challenges and plans going forward during breakout discussion groups.

Speakers will include an experienced Social Value lead, and policy owners/experts
