Your buying decisions have the power to put an end to modern slavery

Stamping out modern slavery in supply chains is one of the UK government’s top priorities. We all have a role to play and here at CCS we want you to be able to use our commercial agreements with the assurance that we use the best due diligence methods available to us.

As an active partner in the modern slavery prevention work led by the Home Office, we are a principal author of the UK government’s first modern slavery statement, which was published in March 2020.

How we can help you

  • Our actions

We have taken practical and effective steps to empower you to prevent modern slavery activity in your supply chains. We conducted an extensive risk assessment of all our commercial agreements. It led us to focus on 26 agreements that depend on the kinds of supply chains favoured by modern slavery criminals. This was the biggest exercise of its kind conducted in the UK public sector.

  • Our contracts

Our contracts include a corporate social responsibility schedule, which requires suppliers to meet the standards set out in the Supplier Code of Conduct and implement policies and procedures to identify and prevent modern slavery occurring in their supply chains.

  • Our tenders

All potential CCS suppliers must confirm if their organisation (or anybody working in it with decision making powers or control) has been convicted of child labour or human trafficking offences or any other crimes, as part of the selection process.

Suppliers with a turnover of over £36 million are required to publish an annual modern slavery statement on their website in accordance with section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act (2015).

  • Due diligence

All suppliers on frameworks launched from June 2019 onwards and that are in high or medium risk categories are asked to complete an assessment using the modern slavery assessment tool.

Our commercial agreement managers review the assessment results, hold follow-up discussions with suppliers who have a high or medium risk score, and work in partnership with them to ensure that they put effective risk mitigation plans in place.
